As a Professional Portrait Photographer, flying from Birmingham to Malta meant more than just a holiday to me. Yes of course I was looking forward to that gorgeous hot weather but having been to Malta before, I knew what was also there. An abundance of interesting characters to photograph. Great Portrait Photography for me has always been about documenting personality, about that connection between photographer & subject. For this personal project I wanted to concentrate on Street Photography but in particular, Portraits.
Rather than discreetly photographing people without their knowledge or consent, I wanted to connect. So whenever I met a great character in the street I made a point of asking them if I could take their portrait. Some refused but thankfully a lot of them said yes. So using natural light I captured Portraits that were both intimate & striking. Travelling around the capital Valletta & then onto the island of Gozo I met some amazing people & took many Portraits. I headed back to Birmingham after my week not only having a wonderful break but excited to share what I had captured.
