Male Portrait Photography with a Cinematic Edge

Male Portrait Photography with a Cinematic Edge

My subject may be a mechanic by trade but that didn’t stop us exploring Male Portrait Photography with a Cinematic Edge. Matthew was looking for a Birmingham Portrait Photographer to capture images that were modern and striking. With a great beard & a “look’ that was very contemporary, we decided that moody lighting with lots of contrast was the way to go.

For this Portrait Session I used a Profoto OCF Beauty Dish White with a diffuser to give a nice, crisp light. The pea coat added to that “fisherman” narrative and provided interesting shapes and angles to the composition. The Profoto Beauty Dish also gave a nice fall-off  to the light on the dark jacket, emphasising Matthews face. With a quick change of outfit we decided to capture some Monochrome Portraits. As a Portrait Photographer I always decide beforehand what type of Portraits will be in Black and White.

So here we have three examples from a Portrait Session on how as Photographer and Subject, we can work together to capture variety. Three Portraits that all tell a different story, yet draw the viewer in through great expression and professional lighting. You can see more Editorial Portraits Here over in the Gallery.
