Star Trek is a phenomenon. Even if you are not a ‘Tekkie’ or a huge Sci-Fi fan in general I bet you know at least 3 stars from the original series. Maybe you have attempted to prize fingers apart reciting ‘Live Long & Prosper’ or made those iconic ‘whoosh’ noises simulating the doors of the U.S.S. Enterprise? Well if you have it will come as no surprise that this franchise has a HUGE following & is celebrating 50, yes FIFTY years!! Thats pretty amazing by anyones intergalactic standards. To celebrate this milestone the NEC in Birmingham hosted what was billed as the largest Star Trek Convention called ‘Destination Star Trek Europe’.
Original cast members William Shatner (Captain James T Kirk) George Takei (Hikaru Sulu) & Walter Koenig (Ensign Pavel Chekov) were joined at the Convention by various cast members spanning across The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager & Enterprise TV series. Sadly Leonard Nimoy (Spock) passed away in 2015 so his son Adam Nimoy attended the event & I must say the resemblance to his father was astounding.
