Conferences & Business Roadshows are great events to photograph & there’s always a great buzz in the air. This is usually because Companies arrange for it’s staff from all over the UK to gather together in one event & it’s a time when everyone gets to catch up. There’s always lot’s of hugs & hand shakes & smiling faces which of course makes for great photography. One thing that’s becoming popular is for Companies to utilise this unique event where all of it’s staff are together & to capture professional, modern Headshots of all the Conference delegates.
I was recently commissioned to do just this during a Conference at The Belfry Hotel here in Birmingham. Working with the events team there I secured a room adjacent to the actual Conference hall & set up a small studio using my Profoto B1 lights. Being battery powered meant I didn’t have to worry about power sockets or taping down cables, a Godsend when you are photographing 100 delegates. I worked closely with the Conference organiser & together we collated a list of people that needed Headshots & also the various times during the day we could do this. We settled on first thing in the morning during registration, mid morning coffee break & then shortly after lunch. I then allowed the mid afternoon break for catching anyone left on the list I hadn’t photographed. There were lots of nervous people but my friendly & positive nature relaxed even the most photo-phobic. Myself & my assistant made sure we captured natural expressions & modern images. We had great feedback from the Client who commented that all the delegates enjoyed having their Headshot taken & we made the whole experience fun yet professional. The Client received 100 digital images that all had a ‘uniformity’ to them, complimented their modern branding & showcase delegates looking relaxed & friendly.
