I have been to London a gazillion times & thought I had visited every place that I could. Wrong! I saw a piece on TV about Christmas at Borough Market in Southwark. I was captivated – the friendly & jolly traders, the wonderfully decorated stalls & the amazing Festive atmosphere. For an Event Photographer it was a dream – all of the elements were there waiting to be photographed.
I hopped on the train with my camera & once there I took the short Tube ride on the London Underground to Southwark Station. As a approached the Festivities at Borough Market I was quite literally like a kid in a sweetshop. The first thing that struck me was the great atmosphere, everyone getting in to the spirit of Christmas. Stall Holders were wearing their Santa hats & greeting everyone with huge smiles. The sound of bells & Carol Singers filled the air & the magical smell of Mulled Wine added to this beautiful atmosphere.
The variety of food & drink on display was mouth watering, from home mad pastries to free rang Turkey suppliers. Everything you would need to make it an extra special Christmas. I wandered around with my camera, telling the story of this Annual Event. Capturing the atmosphere, the colours & the amazing displays. It was exactly as it appeared on Television prior to my visit.
I then walked along the river (can’t quite recall what it was called….) fired up with creativity. All of the fantastic reflections, shapes & textures caught my eye & I was determined to capture some interesting graphic images. It’s so easy when you are faced with landmarks to get the obvious ‘postcard style’ shots, but I always aim for something a little bit different..
Then as the sun began to set on a Winters Day in London I headed into Piccadilly & Soho to capture the bright lights.
